Day Trip to NYC

Waking up early

It’s pre-dawn and my phone dings multiple alarms. I came up the night before to my friends’ Randy and Lisa Katzen’s home in Columbia, MD as this morning we 3 are heading to NYC. We got an awesome price on some Amtrack tickets, so we are going to enjoy the smooth and large window view from the rails!

Pep in our steps

The hustle and bustle of people, sounds and smells lets you know you have arrived. We make our way to the surface and out on to the Manhatten streets. With some Java and snacks we make our way to the HighLine. I have never walked it and today was a perfect day to do so. What an awesome project that was completed to have a different experience walking the city and with some fun art installations along the way.

Amazing that they not only have this garden/art/walking experience but to keep a nod to what it was with the amazing exposed rails and elements

The City

We walked after to get some food and snacks and walked around through Times Sqaure. We even lucked out on some tickets to 2 shows. One, which I finally after all these years of knowing the music but never have seen live, was Avenue Q. The cast was amazing and we all had a blast. The second was The Woodsman, an amazing experience where not only did the stage billow out into the audience but most of the dialogue was body acting and sound effects done by the cast on stage, lastly with the wicked witch puppet being controlled by two amazing women. The performance really moved me and through a under 2 hour performance you get the whole story of how the woodsman became and it was beautiful.

After that we walked our rainy path back to the train, fully satisfied that we packed a full day of fun and adventure. Until the next chapter fellow adventurers I leave you on this post with this awesome double sided neon!
